When I was a kid, my grandfather wore a watch he never set down. I was fascinated by it — but not for the reason you'd think. I was fascinated by the seconds in between: the gap between one tick and the next, the space where time is but nothing happens. Most people look at a watch to see the hour. I looked at one to see everything else.
I joined the military on a coin flip — it was between that and film school. In boot camp I broke my Fossil on the butt of my gun during training, and chose not to replace it. I liked the idea of keeping a reminder of the exact time my watch died.
I built Mercier Prototype because that fascination never left. I could never find a watch that was exactly what I wanted — so I decided to make them.
Every Mercier is designed by me. Each case is serial-numbered. Each component is thoughtfully sourced for one reason: to do its job, and then a little more. There is no heritage premium. There is no boutique markup. There is the watch, the math behind it, and the person who made it.
